Clinical Technician

The Clinical Technician is responsible for assisting
the Shift Supervisor in maintaining the therapeutic environment for
the residential patients experiencing emotional dysfunction and requiring behavioral
health treatment. Primary responsibilities include maintaining a safe environment
for patients and staff, assisting with activities of daily living, implementing
therapeutic recreational activities, and identifying and intervening in
potential crisis situations.

Unit Specific Performance Objectives

  1. Document patient observations, interventions,
    and responses in progress notes.

  2. Involve
    family in treatment during visiting hours and telephone contacts, reporting
    outcome to staff daily.

  3. Identify
    and act to prevent potential crisis situations and appropriately restrain

  4. Communicate
    well by reporting incidents and areas of concern of patients and unit
    environment to the Shift Supervisor in charge.

  5. Maintains
    safe environment by performing contraband checks orienting individual to safety
    rules and adhering to all Hospital safety policies.

  6. Transport
    patients as needed to emergency rooms, medical and dental appointments as

    the staff in community meetings, running groups if necessary.

  8. Monitor
    cleanliness of unit, reporting any maintenance variances to supervisor.

  9. Utilizes
    a positive, growth-oriented, and problem solving approach with patients, staff,


  10. Demonstrates
    an understanding of the growth and developmental stages of children and

    and initiates treatment based upon their needs.

  11. Demonstrates
    an understanding of milieu interventions and supportive interaction, and

    these under direction of the Shift Supervisor.

  12. Perform
    other duties as required.



1.    A
high school diploma with two years of clinical/related experience
; or
equivalent combination of education and experience;

bachelor’s degree in mental health or equivalent college level coursework, or
experience working in a mental health facility or with MH/IDD/ASD individuals.

Knowledge of group dynamics preferred.

Crisis Intervention Certification must be maintained to include annual refresher.

CPR certification renewed bi-annually
or upon expiration of certification.

Must be knowledgeable of the developmental
stages and behaviors for age group of assigned clients

6.    Maintains
competence in identified universal, core and critical competencies.

7.    Valid
PA Act 34/34 clearances

Must meet job competencies within 90
days of hire.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
